History:
Built in 1972 by REIMS Aviation in France under a licensed agreement with Cessna, our Reims Rocket R210 served in the Irish Air Corps for nearly half a century before its retirement in October 2019. In its lifetime, it would have been used on various mission roles, such as border surveillance, bog surveys, wildlife surveys, general transportation flights and even one air ambulance mission!
Arriving in Shannon Aviation Museum in August 2020 in her forever home, she is being admired hour by hour, day after day.
Irish Air Corps Reims Rocket FR172H
- Our Reims Rocket 172 was built in 1972 by REIMS Aviation in France
- It has a Continental O-300 engine, built by Rolls Royce in the UK under an agreement by Continental Motors. The engine is capable of producing 145 horsepower.
- The 172 had a top speed of 302 km/h (163 knots)
- Our 172 was used by the Irish Air Corps until 2019 after flying for 47 years
- It had a service ceiling of 14,000 feet
- It had a total range of 1,185km
- Reims Rocket 172's are just over 27 feet in length, and have a 36 foot wingspan!
- Our 172, R210, was one of 9 Reims Rocket 172's that the Irish Air Corps had in service between 1972 and 2019.
