This year, Shannon Aviation Museum and ISTAT Foundation have teamed up to offer TY students across the country a fantastic experience in aviation. Groups with over 30 students can avail of a 50% subsidy for their Aviation Career Field Trip, from the ISTAT Foundation. Places are limited – the first 10 schools to book are eligible for this subsidy.
Flight holds a particular fascination and therefore is an excellent springboard for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects, making them relevant and linking them everyday life.
At Shannon Aviation Museum, Transition Year students receive an exciting introduction to the spectrum of careers within the aviation industry. Most people think of the people they see when travelling, pilots and cabin crew, in fact there are hundreds of people working to support each aircraft flying today. The aim of this programme is to give students an understanding of the career and study options available and to highlight the industry’s demand for skilled professionals across the spectrum over the next 20 years.
The 4 hr TY Aviation Field Trip is an excellent opportunity for students who are thinking about their future career’s, to hear the first hand experiences of a cross section of aerospace professionals, helping them to see where they can fit in to this exciting, diverse and challenging environment.
As part of the experience, everyone gets a chance to test their skill with a fun simulated flying lesson, and to round off the day students have an interactive guided tour of the Aviation Museum, to see a full scale Boeing 737 NG Flight Simulator, sit into Cessna aircraft, and get up close to the museums collection of Aircraft, Cockpits, Jet Engines and lots more. It’s an educational and fun day out that is enjoyed by both the girls and boys.
